Williamstown Cal Ripken Stars Win Opener at States

SUTTON, Mass. -- The Williamstown 10-under Cal Ripken all-stars battled back from a 4-0 deficit to take an 11-4 win from defending state champion Frontier in Williamstown's first game at the state tournament on Saturday.

Landen Jamula struck out five and gave up three earned runs before getting an inning of 1-2-3 relief from Jake Cangelosi.

Thomas Martin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Oscar Lowe went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Frontier jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Williamstown roared back with eight runs in a second inning that saw 14 batters came to the plate. Martin capped the rally with a two-out, two-run single.

Williamstown was scheduled to meet Hudson on Saturday afternoon in pool play. The tournament, which also features Lee, continues through Tuesday.
