“Holiday House” Registration Starts Monday

By Susan Bush
12:00AM / Saturday, November 19, 2005

Adams – Got tinsel?

Town residents are invited to pump their holiday spirit up to high gear and enter a Town of Adams Events Committee “Holiday House” decorating contest. Registration begins Mon. Nov. 21 and concludes on Mon. Dec. 5. And, yes, Virginia, there are prizes; first prize is $200 in gift certificates, second prize is $100 in gift certificates and third prize is $50 in gift certificates. All gift certificates must be used at town-based businesses.

Judging is scheduled to occur on Dec. 12 and Dec. 13 between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.. “Holiday House” participants do not have to be at home during the judging but the entry should be displayed appropriately, meaning any lights should be on and any moving decorations should be in motion. Events committee members will serve as judges.

The 2004 contest drew 23 entrants, said committee Chairwoman Haley Meczywor.

“Everyone did an excellent job last year,” she said. “It was pretty hard for the judges.”

Entrants are encouraged to use creativity and imagination, and present entries that required some thought and effort, Meczywor said.

Registration sites are the Adams Free Library, the Adams Visitors Center, the Adams Co-op Bank, BankNorth, the Greylock Federal Credit Union, and the South Adams Savings Bank. Only registered homes will be included in the judging.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

The town’s holiday tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Sun., Nov. 27, at the Town Common. The three-hour event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., and includes carriage rides [weather permitting], doughnuts and hot chocolate, and a scheduled 3:30 p.m. visit from that jolly old elf “Santa Claus.” The tree lighting is scheduled for 4 p.m..
