Fair, Fiesta and "Bugapalooza" Weekend

There's no reason for Berkshire families to face boredom over the upcoming weekend. There are family-friendly events of all kinds scheduled beginning Aug. 4 through Aug. 6.

Adams Agricultural Fair Aug. 4-6

The Adams Agricultural Fair kicks off its' 32nd year at 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at Bowe Field. Friday evening highlights include a 6 p.m. Cruise-In featuring street rods, classic cars and custom vehicles. A truck pull is scheduled to rev up at 6:30 p.m. with a rain date of Aug. 5 and music will be provided during Friday evening's festivities by County Line. Maple Grove Equipment is sponsoring a children's pedal-power tractor pull at 7 p.m..

The gates open for Saturday's fair events at 10 a.m. and the crowning of the fair's prince and princess is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.. A pony pull, scheduled to alternate with a horse pull, is slated to begin at 11 a.m.. Additional Aug. 5 events include a firemen's muster at 12:30 p.m., a magic show at 1 p.m., and a 2:30 p.m. performance by Terry A La Berry and Friends. The evening will be filled with the musical talents of Minor setback.

On Sunday, an ox pull beings at 11 a.m. as does a sheep dog demonstration. A Dancecapade performance is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and a real fair favorite, a demolition derby, is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. Admission to the fair is $5 per adult per day, children up to age 12 $1 per day, or $10 for a three-day pass.

Group W Art Show At Lichenstein

In Pittsfield on Friday evening [Aug. 4] a Group W art show is set to open at the Lichenstein Center for the Arts. Straw sculptures, masks, concrete reliefs, photography and paintings are part of the show and the artists are expected to attend the opening. The free event begins at 6 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m. at the Lichenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Ave..

The Cat In The Hat Outdoor Movie

Also on Friday evening in Pittsfield is a scheduled free open air showing of the movie "The Cat In The Hat." Picnic baskets are welcome at the "outdoor theater" at The Common on First Street. Movie time is 8:15 p.m..

Family Fiesta de Pittsfield

The Common will also host a Saturday Aug. 5 free Family Fiesta de Pittsfield beginning at 1 p.m. and concluding at 7 p.m..The fiesta is designed to focus on the rich cultural heritage of the Latino community and will offer traditional foods of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Columbia, and other Latin American nations. Children's art activities, cultural music, dancing, face-painting, a clown, and more are scheduled as part of the event.

Shaker Picnic

The Hancock Shaker Village is hosting a Shaker family picnic on Saturday Aug. 5. reservations are required and may be made by calling 413-443-0188. Additional Shaker family picnics are scheduled for Aug. 12 and Aug. 19.

The event includes tours of the village's historic buildings, hands-on farm activities, and a picnic supper. The meal is expected to include herbed chicken,Shaker red potato salad, Shaker baked beans,corn bread, strawberry shortcake, and more. The event begins at 4 p.m. and concludes a 6:30 p.m..

Ice Cream Social, Baseball, Lemonade

The Gilded Age era is the focus of an Aug. 5 Saturday Afternoon Ice Cream and Baseball Social, which is part of the Berkshire Historical Society's on-going exhibition "Becoming Pittsfield: The Gilded Age." The afternoon event at 780 Holmes Road includes ice cream, cake, lemonade, baseball and a band concert. Admission to the grounds and the outdoor activities are free; there is a charge for food and beverages. The social begins at 1 p.m. and concludes at 5 p.m.. It's "Bugaplaooza!"

The Berkshire Museum will mark "Bugapalooza Day" on Sunday, Aug. 6.

The event roster includes such delightful activities as the "Stinkbug Bugaloo" variety show, face-painting, arts and crafts, dancing and other family projects. Children are invited to attend the family day attired as their favorite bug for the "Bug Runway" show.

Admission is adults $8, children $5, senior citizens $6.50, members and children under age three free. "Bugapalooza Day" begins at 1 p.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. at the Berkshire Museum, 39 South St., Pittsfield. Additional information is available at 413-443-7171.
