Moulton's Pizzeria Sold

By Susan Bush
12:00AM / Friday, December 29, 2006

North Adams - A new menu introduced by a new management team at Moulton's Pizzeria received a very positive reaction from the eatery's customers and has led to a business purchase from former owners Mark Moulton and Robert Moulton Jr..

Mark Moulton confirmed that a sale of the business occurred on Dec. 22.

The new owner is Turgut Aydin, who began managing the 117 Main St. restaurant in early December. Under new management, the menu was greatly expanded to include specialty pizzas, a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, and hot or cold grinders, dinner entrees, and lunchtime specials. Aydin operates the business with assistance from family members.

"They took over the management and things went extremely well, so well that they were able to move forward sooner than expected," Mark Moulton said during a late afternoon Dec. 29 interview.

He and family members believe that the new owners will continue on a successful path, and wish them well, he said.

The new owners do not plan a restaurant name change.

Moulton did not disclose the business purchase price.

The Moultons did not sell the building that houses the business.

Members of the Moulton family own and operate the Spectacle Shop on Main Street as well as Moulton's General Store, also on Main Street at the site of the former J.J. Newberry store.

Robert Moulton Jr. is a City Councilor while Mark Moulton is a member of the city's public schools school committee.

During a Dec. 4 interview with iberkshires.com, Mark Moulton said that Aydin approached his brother and himself about two months ago with a restaurant management plan. Allowing management to pass to Aydin meant easing some of the business pressures on his brother and himself, Mark Moulton said at that time.

Mark and Robert Moulton Jr. owned and operated the business for about two years after spending some time renovating the restaurant space. The property was operated as the Pizza House for many years prior to the Moulton enterprise, and at one time, the restaurant space hosted separate businesses, including a women's clothing shop.

Operating a restaurant did have an upside but also proved very challenging, Mark Moulton said.

When asked if he would consider opening another eatery in the future, he offered a quick, concise response.

"Hell, no," he said,

Moulton's Pizzeria hours are Mon.-Thurs. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fri-Sat. 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sun. noon-10 p.m.. Take-out orders may be placed by calling 413-663-3384.
