Ruberto Urges Cultural Survey Participation

12:00AM / Thursday, March 01, 2007

Pittsfield – Mayor James M. Ruberto announced on Feb. 28 that the city is seeking input from the public in the next phase of the Office of Cultural Development’s recently launched strategic Cultural Plan process.

Those who participate will be helping create a roadmap to excellence and accessibility in arts and culture.

Ruberto is encouraging people to offer feedback by taking the Cultural Survey, which is available in printed form at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, the Berkshire Athenaeum, and Pittsfield City Hall.

It can also easily and anonymously be taken online. A link to the online version of the survey can be found at culturalpittsfield.com, or by linking to “Take the Cultural Survey” under "Latest News" at the city’s official www.Pittsfield.com website. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and is anonymous. The deadline for responding to the survey is April 1, 2007.

“We encourage everyone -- residents, community leaders, visitors and neighbors -- to take the survey and offer their thoughts and suggestions,” said Ruberto.“Your input is key to help us better understand the way culture and the arts enhance Pittsfield’s quality of life, economic development, and attractiveness, and the role they will have in our future.”

The cultural planning process is designed to create a "roadmap" to further establish Pittsfield as a center of culture, arts and entertainment in Berkshire County and beyond.

The plan will identify strategies to increase access to arts and culture for all Pittsfield residents; foster the continuing vitality and expansion of the city's cultural sector; and attract new individuals and businesses interested in participating and investing in the city's creative economy.

The Steering Committee members represent a broad spectrum of the community, and is co-chaired by Elie Hammerling, Chair of the city’s Cultural Development Board and former vice president for planning at the Berkshire Medical Center, and Cory Hines, a management consultant specializing in strategy implementation, who has worked with major organizations in the U.S., Canada, and South Africa.

Copies of the survey may be requested by contacting the Office of Cultural Development at 413-499-9348 or mwhilden@pittsfieldch.com.
