MCLA Students At National Covention

12:00AM / Tuesday, March 13, 2007

North Adams- Two Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts students are among the presenters at the 2007 Alpha Chi National Convention,
“Celebrating Honor,” to be held March 15-17, in San Antonio, Texas.

Erin Thayer ’07, of Glendale, Ariz., will perform Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” as part of a performing arts presentation presided over by MCLA music professor Christine Condaris.

Chenoa Pierce ’07, of East Hartford, Conn., will present her creative writing piece, “About a Barn.”

The student presentations will be judged, with prizes being offered in more than 20 academic and performance areas.

Each year, MCLA sends a contingent from its Mass Beta chapter of Alpha Chi to the event, where some 200 college honors students will give
presentations. The conference also will include annual business meetings among the seven regions represented at the event.

A national honor society, Alpha Chi is a member of the Association of
College Honor Societies and has chapters at 300 institutions. It inducts no more than the top 10 percent of an institution’s juniors and seniors from all academic disciplines. Eligible students are those who have achieved a 3.4 cumulative grade point average. Established in 1970, the MCLA chapter of Alpha Chi encourages students to continue their development through graduate work, awards prizes and stipends, supports student programs, and conducts regional and national conventions where invited students share their research and creative work.
