Williamstown Jazz Festival Events

Williamstown - The Williamstown Jazz festival continues tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. MASS MoCA plans to host a soul-blues-jazz dance party with live performances by Hipnotism.The New York City-based group features saxophone player Erik Lawrence, guitarist Ronny Drayton, Clark Gayton on the trombone, bassist Rene Hart and Abe Spelle on percussion.

A pre-concert demonstration will be conducted by Lawrence at the Bernhard Music Center's Brooks Rogers Recital Hall at Williams College at 4:30 p.m..

Concert tickets are $14 advance purchase or $18 at the door.

Intercollegiate Jazz Festival

On April 20 and 21, jazz ensembles from several colleges will perform from noon to 4 p.m. at Chapin Hall and be judged by jazz bassist and composer Avery Sharpe and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz composition award winner Ted Pease.

April 21 Schedule:

12 p.m.: Westfield State College

1 p.m.: Smith College

2 p.m.: Skidmore College

3 p.m.: Coast Guard Academy

April 22 schedule

9 a.m.: Bancroft School

10 a.m.: Amherst College

11 a.m.: Community College of Rhode Island

12 p.m.: Rhode island College

1:30 p.m.: Schenectady County Community College

2:30 p.m.: Le Moyne College

3:30 p.m.: Worcester Polytechnic Institute

4:30 p.m.: Boston University

5:30 p.m.: Williams College

Additional Events

The Williams Gospel Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m.at St. John's Episcopal Church on Park Street. The choir will be directed by guest conductor Walter Robinson.

Free dance classes, a jazz film, after-concert "jam sessions" and more are expected to be held at Cafe Latino, located on the MASS MoCA campus, on April 20 and the Spring Street, Williamstown based Spice Root restaurant on April 21.

The Williams College Museum of Art will host poet Cassandra Cleghorn at 2 p.m. on April 22. The event is titled "merge: Music, Poetry, and Photography."
