David Grover At Berkshire Botanical Garden

02:13PM / Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Stockbridge - The Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge welcomes special guest singer/songwriter, David Grover, to appear at the July 8 opening of its Children's Discovery Garden. Open at noon for picnics, a walk through the garden and gift shop, and children's activities take are planed from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m..

The Children's Discovery Garden is filled to the brim with kid friendly plants, activities and excitement.

At this special celebration, David Grover will offer a song for his pint-sized pals at 2:30 p.m.. Other activities will include kid crafts, making a seed-sprouting necklace and learning what makes seeds grow in the garden.

Kids big and small can dig in the soil, discover baby vegetables, leave a special message in the "wishing tree," water the many varieties of plants, explore the unique willow den, check out some bathtub botany, watch a solar powered fountain and visit the ever popular "wormery." Garden-fresh snacks and lavender lemonade will be served to all.

"Build A Fairie House" workshop, a hands-on activity, begins at 1:30 p.m. with the garden staff. Children and parents will listen to a special story about fairies in the garden, search for signs of the "wee woodland folk," and make a Fairie House.

The children will add their constructions to the Fairie Village which will remain on display for the season. (Advanced registration for this activity is required 413-298-3926.)

Started in 2001 by garden volunteers with community donations, the Children's Discovery Garden was conceived as an interactive display, a hands-on activity garden intended to charm, instruct and entice children large and small within its secret spaces.

Small but significant, the vibrant children's garden is devoted to enriching education, innovation and adventure. Among its many special features is a six-foot bird topiary constructed by Matt Larkin an expert in large scale living sculpture.

Children's Garden Opening Celebration activities are free with Garden admission. Garden admission is $7.00 for adults and free for Children 12 and under. For further information call 413-298-3926 or visit a www.berkshirebotanical.org Internet web site.
