John Dickson, local historian and author of "Berkshire County’s Industrial Heritage," will present “Why Here' The Rise of Berkshire County’s Industrial Might” at the Dalton Public Library on Main Street. Historic photos of the 19th century mills and factories reveal the story of enterprising young people harnessing the power of water to make a living for their families. Their efforts help turn the county from an agricultural frontier to an industrial powerhouse that supplied the nation and drew workers from around the world. The mill buildings still dot our landscapes, and we are the heirs of the men, women and children who labored inside them.
