Great Barrington, 2 p.m.
W.E.B. Du Bois River Park, Church and River Streets, Gt Barrington Pre-registration encouraged: firstname.lastname@example.org W. E. B. Du Bois’s special connection to rivers and environmental justice provides a unique lens through which to view his more well-known accomplishments. Featured will be Du Bois’s 1930 speech on the Housatonic River, Langston Hughes’s The Negro Speaks of Rivers, and Du Bois’s activism surrounding the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. The event will be held on the anniversary of the first Niagara Conference in 1905. It will be followed by a walking tour of sites in Great Barrington that helped to shape the town’s iconic native son. More information at www.GBLand.org
CONCERT AT THE LAKE PRESENTS BERNICE LEWIS
North Adams, 6:30 p.m.
Each summer from June through August the City of North Adams hosts a free weekly concert series, sponsored by Greylock Federal Credit Union, at Windsor Lake (intersection of Kemp and Bradley Streets). These concerts combine great music with the beautiful natural backdrop of Windsor Lake. Pack a picnic, bring a chair or blanket, and let the sweet sounds of music and water carry you away on a warm summer night. Concessions are available at the lake, but people are welcome to bring their own food. Parking is free during concerts, and swimming, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing are allowed at the lake.
