Doris E. Richardson, 84

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Doris Elizabeth Richardson, 84, of 227 Franklin St., former longtime resident of the Spruces, Williamstown, died on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 1, 1930, a daughter of David and Ruby Glass Allen, she attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School.

Mrs. Richardson was employed at the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Heartwellville, Vt., from the day it opened until the day it closed, also posing as its poster girl. She later worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. and former North Adams Regional Hospital.

She was a member of All Saints Church in North Adams for many years. She enjoyed bowling and golf, and spent summers at her house on Lake St. Catherine in Vermont with her beloved husband of 64 years.

She and her husband, Donald Robert Richardson, were married on Sept. 2, 1950, in what was then St. John's Episcopal Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Donna Richardson Sawyer, who was her primary caregiver, and her husband, John Jr., of North Adams; a son, David A. Richardson of North Adams; five grandchildren, David Allen Sawyer of Tennessee, Jeromy Richardson, Jason Richardson, Rebecca Johnson, and Brianna Richardson, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her brother, Roy Allen, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Richardson will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to FORD (Friends of Renal Dialysis) at BMC in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Richardson's family would like to extend a special thanks to BMC, Berkshire VNA & Hospice, the Dialysis Unit of Pittsfield, Meals on Wheels and Surgimed in North Adams.
