Robert A. Sherman, 72

CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Robert Arthur "Yogi" Sherman, 72, of 199 Middle Road died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Clarksburg on March 27, 1942, son of Earl D. and Mildred Shortman Sherman, he attended Clarksburg schools and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams with the class of 1959.

Mr. Sherman worked in the concrete business for his entire career, starting with Maxymillian Construction. He then joined Berkshire Concrete Corp., where he worked for many years. An accomplished concrete technician, fondly called "Yogi" by co-workers, he was always willing to offer his expertise on the most complicated projects. He was last employed by Della Concrete Co., where he was instrumental in assisting with the startup of the business, until his retirement in 2004.

He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Stamford Valley (Vt.) Golf Course, where he was a proud member of the "Hole in One Club" and currently holds the course record. He and his wife enjoyed travel and spending time with their family.

He loved to work in his yard, as well as helping his children with projects around their homes. He loved watching his beloved sports teams, the New York Yankees, New York Giants and Boston Celtics.

He and his wife, the former Jeanette Rose Masson, were married on March 25, 1961.

Besides his wife, he leavs a daughter, Deborah A. LaPine and her husband, Mark, of Clarksburg; two sons, David A. Sherman and his wife, Renee, of Clarksburg and Stephen G. Sherman and his wife, Kristy, of North Adams; a brother, William Sherman of Clarksburg; five grandchildren, David Sherman and his wife, Kelsey, Scott Sherman, Michelle LaPine, Paige Sherman and Benjamin Thomas; a great-granddaughter, Ava Dale, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Sherman and Forrest Sherman.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Sherman will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation in care of the funeral home.
