Lawrence Roberts, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Lawrence Roberts, 89, of 556 Barbour St. died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at North Adams Commons after a long illness.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 18, 1925, son of Lucien and Florida Cote Roberts, he attended the former Notre Dame School and former Bliss Business College.

A Marine veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific with the 2nd Marine Division, participating in the invasions on Tinian and Saipan.

Mr. Roberts worked at the former General Cable Co. for more than 30 years, until his retirement. After retiring, he worked for Elder Services for 17 years, delivering meals for its Meals on Wheels Program. In his younger years, he operated a taxi in North Adams.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and enjoyed gardening and carpentry.

He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Y. Champagne, whom he married on March 9, 1973; a daughter, Elizabeth Roberts of Adams; a son, Richard A. Roberts and his wife, Diane, of North Adams; six stepchildren, Nancy Roy and her husband, Rejean, of North Adams, Alice Vigna and her companion, Richard Lussier, of Clarksburg, Celeste Daniels and her husband, Alden, of Heath, Annette Dudley and her husband, Curtis, of Succasunna, N.J., and Robin Sigsbury of Adams; fie grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Donna Roberts and her companion, Walter Kupis; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

His son William E. "Moose" Roberts and his siblings Ernest Roberts, Leonard Roberts, Isabelle Champney and Aline Parmenter are deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Roberts will be celebrated Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to Elder Services Meals on Wheels in care of the funeral home.
