Elizabeth A. Grennon, 82
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Elizabeth A. Grennon, 82, formerly of Williamstown, died peacefully on Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, 2015.Born in Troy, N.Y., on Dec. 16, 1932, one of eight children born to W. Joseph and Rose Shanley of Troy and Saratoga Lake, N.Y., she was educated at Holy Names Academy and attended the College of New Rochelle, N.Y..
After raising five children, Mrs. Grennon was employed for many years in the banking industry, first as a teller and eventually a manager of the former Berkshire Bank & Trust branch. Following their marriage on May 28, 1955, she and her husband, William E. Grennon, moved to Williamstown, where he began his architecture practice.
She served on the board of the former Boys Club, the Board of Trade and was past president of the St. Patrick's Guild. Upon retirement, she and her husband and spent winters at their home in Boca Raton, Fla., and travelled throughout the world. She enjoyed cruising on the high seas, ballroom dancing, music and spending time with her family and friends.
Her loving husband died in May 2000.
She leaves her two daughters, Michele Grennon and her husband, Joffree Barrnett, of New Castle, N.H., and Maribeth Casey and her husband, David, of Williamstown; three sons, William Edward Grennon Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Amherst, N.H., Christopher Grennon and his wife, Patty, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Terence Grennon and his wife, Lauren, of New York City; a sister, Joan Verdile; three brothers, Donald, Kevin and Terence Shanley; nine grandchildren, Courtney Wood, Michaela Phaneuf, Conor and Elise Casey, Evan and Liam Grennon, Andrew, Christopher and Kathryn Grennon; a great-grandson, Winter Phaneuf, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Joseph Shanley, Kaye Vavasour and Eileen McCabe, and her in-laws Jack Vavasour, Thomas McCabe, Catherine Shanley and Ray Verdile.
FUNERAL NOTICE - A celebration of Mrs. Grennon's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Southworth Street, Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to either the Williamstown Youth Center (formerly the Boys Club) or NAMI-MA in care of the funeral home.
