Bernice M. O'Brien, 82

PITTSFIELD, Mass.—; Bernice M. O'Brien, 82, of 315 Upper Valley Road, Washington, Mass., died Thursday, August 18, 2016, at the Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.



Born in Camden, N.J., on December 4, 1933, the daughter of Frank A. and Anna Maria Renner Newton, she was educated in Camden, N.J., schools and was a 1952 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Mrs. O'Brien was employed for 27 years as the administrative assistant for the Division of State Forests and Parks.



She enjoyed taking care of her family, as well as her home. She also enjoyed cake decorating, history, genealogy, playing and beating her daughter Melody in dominos, and crocheting.



Mrs. O'Brien is survived by seven children: her three sons, Norman O'Brien and his wife Liz of Gilbert, Ariz., Gregory O'Brien of Washington, Mass., and Michael O'Brien and his wife Donna of Eagle Lake, Maine; four daughters, Anne Marie Fish of Dalton, Melody Hall and her husband Jim of Thompson Station, Tenn., Ruth Rice of Pittsfield and Margaret Carnevale and her husband Rob of Pittsfield; a sister, Patricia Staples and her husband Bob of Pittston, enn.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.



She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Norman T. O'Brien, who died December 24, 2006; her infant son, Dennis Edward O'Brien (1965); a brother, Frank Newton; and a sister, Marie Newton.



Funeral notice: At Bernice's request there are no funeral services. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic (for lung disease research) in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
