Louis A. Chojnowski, 67

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Louis A. Chojnowski Jr. 67, of 334 Barker Road died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on November 26, 1948, son of the late Louis A. Chojnowski Sr., and Diana M. Royer Chojnowski, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. Continuing his education, he attended Berkshire Community College as well as the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (formerly North Adams State College).

Mr. Chojnowski was employed in Operational Planning, Methods and Logistics at the General Electric Company. He was also employed as a Substance Abuse Counselor at the McGee Unit at Hillcrest Hospital and at the Berkshire County House of Correction. He had a profound impact and took great pride in assisting a generation of people struggling with substance abuse towards the goal of recovery. He had also been a Park Police Officer for the City of Pittsfield, Department of Parks and Recreation.

His passion for parks, recreation and the City of Pittsfield was shared by his family. He also coached a variety of youth athletics in Pittsfield underscoring his love of baseball, community, his family and Pittsfield.

He was completely energized by all things Elvis Presley! The music, energy and rock-n-roll moved Louie in a way that energized his family and children to share in this passion. He lived by this gossip and drew strength to overcome the many obstacles that life with four daughters can present.

Despite the nature of his chronic illness, Louie instilled in his daughters the value of humility, integrity and character. A strong moral compass and a passion and zeal for life with purpose. He had a larger than life presence, which existed in quiet humility. He modeled all of these character traits for his adoring children and grandchildren. He was loved by many, cherished by few and an exemplar to all of what a man and a father should be.

Mr. Chojnowski leaves four daughters, Caryn Chojnowski of Richland, Wash., Kimberly Chojnowski of Pittsfield, Stacy D. Chojnowski of Pittsfield and Shannon Chojnowski of Sedona, Ariz.; a beloved sister, Gracemary O'Connell of Pittsfield; his former wife, Carriell Lusignan of Sedona, Ariz.; and four grandchildren: Aleah Sangiovanni, Chance, Cantor and Charlotte McKnight, whom he adored.

Funeral notice: Calling hours for Louis A. Chojnowski Jr. will be held Sunday, October 16, 2016, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association both in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.
