Maria T. Cimini, 100

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Maria Theresa Cimini (Mary) passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 – her 100th birthday.

Above all else, Mary would want to be remembered for her dedication to family. “G-Ma” was one of 11 children born to Vito and Maria (Zurzulo) Sinopoli. She was predeceased by John Cimini, her all-star husband of 64 years.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Al and Donna Cimini (Pittsfield, Mass.) and daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Rick Hoeske (Bolton, Mass). Her brother, Nick Sinopoli, and sister-in-law, Rose Cimini (both of Lee, Mass.) are still living at 92 and 103, respectively.

G-Ma is also survived by her six grandchildren and their families: David and Dina Hoeske (Roswell, Ga.), Alison DiGeronimo (Bolton, Mass.), Matthew and Liz Hoeske (Fitchburg, Mass.), Craig and Kayleen Cimini (Avon, Conn.), Mark Cimini and Emily Taylor (Pittsfield) and Laura and Brian Flynn (Seattle, Wash.). She was overjoyed to be “GG” to seven great grandchildren: Jack, Joshua, Marney, Abbey, Kiley, Mia and Grace.

Mary was born and raised “Pittsfield Proud.” After graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1934, Mary worked as a secretary at General Electric for 42 years, retiring in 1976.  Mary was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, where she was active in the Ladies’ Guild – especially their lawn parties, annual bazaar and bingo. She was an exceptional knitter and baker, and also loved to read and play cards.  Her family will take comfort in her heirloom afghans and baby sweaters, which she lovingly prepared for generations to come.

Mary attributed much of her longevity and good health to an active lifestyle.  She loved to golf, and could be found at Curves well into her 90s. Mary’s final years were spent at Benchmark Crossing in Leominster, Mass, where “GG” enjoyed frequent visits with her great-grandchildren.  The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Leominster Crossing, Kindred Hospice (especially Lori), and the French Connection Team.

Funeral notice: The funeral for Mary Cimini will be Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 8 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Home for Funerals, 5 Elm St. Piitsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 414 North St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, officiating.  Burial will follow in the family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, October 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ralph J Froio Senior Center, 330 North St., Pittsfield, MA, 01201 or Kindred Hospice, 406 Hemenway Street, Suite 406U, Marlboro, MA, 01752. She would also be honored by a prayer, a competitive round of cards or making a baby giggle.
