George Nejaime, 84

LEE, Mass. — George Najib Nejaime, 84, of Lee passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, surrounded by his family and friends.

George was born in Maasser El Chouf, Lebanon, on August 27, 1932. He lived in Beirut in the winter, where he was a sergeant with the police force, and spent the summers in Maasser with his family until the unfortunate events of the war necessitated his move with his family to Lee, where he joined his extended family.

Everyone loved George and he became a friend to everyone. He had a passion for his garden and loved sharing his fruits and vegetables. He enjoyed playing the clarinet and the family spent many beautiful evenings dancing to George's wonderful music. George was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Lebanon.

Besides his wife Najat, whom he married February 21, 1960, he leaves behind his two sons, Naji and Fadi Nejaime and his wife Beverly, all of Lee; one daughter, Ghada "Katie" Chakar and her husband Robert of White Lake, N.Y.; one brother, Nabih Nejaime and his wife Marilyn of Stockbridge; two sisters, Nadia Matney of North Adams and Noel Nejaime of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, Michaela, Alexa, Angelique, Julian, Rubielle Nejaime, Arlen Stawasz, Tiffany Boedicker, Christina and Patrick Chakar; and two great-grandchildren, Drake and Lila Boedicker. George was also loved by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins in the United States and Lebanon.

Funeral notice: Funeral services for George Nejaime will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with a Liturgy of Christian Burial with the Rev. Brian McGrath, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee.

Visiting Hours will be Friday evening, January 20, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in George’s name to either the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospital in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
