Sheldon P. Field, 83
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Sheldon Perry "Pete" Field, 83, of North Adams, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 7, 1933, son of Perry and Muriel Fetridge Field, he attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from the former Williamstown High School.
He served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Mr. Field was a longtime firefighter with the North Adams Fire Department, serving from 1964 until his retirement in 1989. He was first employed at the former Mohawk Paper Mill.
He was a member of the Greylock Community Club, the Elks Club, the Moose Club and the Masons Lodge. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He and his wife, the former Audrey Brenenstuhl, were married on Nov. 27, 1954.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Bruce Field and his wife, Lynda, and Peter Field, all of North Adams; two grandchildren, April Field and Shawn Field and his wife, Leah; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Field, Michael Field and Easton Field, and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandson Michael Charles Field on April 14, 1994, and his sister, Shirley Avis Mills, on March 22, 2017.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Mr. Field will be Thursday, April 20, at 1 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southlawn cemetery in Williamstown.
