Rita Streeter, 91
DALTON, Mass. — Rita Frances Streeter, 91, of 80 Lake Street, Dalton, a resident of Dalton since 1949, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Craneville Place of Dalton, where she had resided the past year and a half.
Born in Northampton on February 1, 1926, the daughter of David R. and Caroline F. Walsh Callahan, she was educated in North Hadley schools, was a 1943 graduate of Hopkins Academy and was a 1945 graduate of Northampton Commercial College.
Mrs. Streeter was first employed as a clerk in the Treasurer’s Office at the University of Massachusetts. She later worked as a clerk in the Guidance Office at Wahconah Regional High School and lastly in the Special Needs Office at the Central Berkshire School District.
She retired in 1986.
Mrs. Streeter was a communicant of St. Agnes Church. She was a member and the first president of the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who loved “Big Papi”. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, bowling, and walking.
Mrs. Streeter leaves her husband, Kenneth B. Streeter, whom she married October 12, 1948, in Amherst.
She is also survived by four sons, Raymond K. Streeter (and Margaret) of Arlington, Tex., Allan F. Streeter (and Christine) of Hampden, Mass., Gerald G. Streeter of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kevin B. Streeter (and Michele) of Pittsfield; her daughter-in-law, Diane Streeter; 14 grandchildren, Lindsay S. Figueroa and Carlos), Christopher A. Streeter (and Margaret), Megan S. Streeter, Kerri L. Wheeler (and Jason), Matthew R. Streeter, Jeffrey F. Streeter, Rebecca E. Streeter, Emily S. Gargiulo (and Michael), Bryan K. Streeter (and Laura), and Eric K. Streeter, Zachary B. Streeter, Jennifer Bradford, Christopher Bradford, and Cara Oxenham; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Norman R. Streeter; and four brothers, John W. Callahan, James W. Callahan, David R. Callahan and Frederick D. Callahan.
Funeral notice: Funeral services for Rita F. Streeter will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2018. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Dery-Foley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
