Haunted Hike Set For Oct. 26 at Fountain Pond
For those courageous enough, the annual Haunting in the Hills invites the brave to walk with the dead and the tormented. Gather at the Fountain Pond trailhead, at Community Health Programs main campus, at 444 Stockbridge Road, if you dare, at 8 p.m.

New Member Named to SVHC Advisory Board
The SVHC Deerfield Valley Regional Advisory Board consists of 10 members. Members are nominated by members of the group or by the health system. The SVHC Foundation's mission is to engage in development and fundraising activities exclusively for the support of the Southwestern Vermont Health Care Corporation.

New Pediatrician Joins Southwestern Vermont Medical Center
Lozier's work experience includes serving as a clinical research assistant at Brown University-Roger Williams Medical center and Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies in Providence, R.I., and as senior clinical research coordinator and rater at AccelRX Research in and at the New England Center for Clinical Research, both in Fall River, Mass.

Accreditors to Visit BCC's Nursing Program Wednesday, Public Meeting Scheduled
BCC's nursing program will be reviewed for accreditation during a site visit on Wednesday. Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing is holding a visit, which includes a public forum, on the accreditation process. ACEN has a full day scheduled including from 1:45 until 2:45 hearing from the public any questions, opinions, or concerns about the program.

New Doctor Joins BMC Cancer Center
Dr. Ahmad is accepting new patients in need of hematology oncology services at both the Berkshire Hematology Oncology of BMC offices in Pittsfield, at the BMC Cancer Center and, in North Berkshire, at the North Adams Campus of BMC.

CHP Receives $285,000 Grant to Enhance Mental Health Treatment
The grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration is part of a $396 million federal allocation. Of this, $12 million will be shared by 38 Massachusetts-based community health centers.

Advocates for Ballot Measure on Nurse Staffing Levels Rally in Pittsfield
Question 1 was placed on the ballot by petition and spells out the maximum number of patients under a nurse's charge in acute care facilities. Voting yes will institute the changes that will have to be implemented by Jan. 1, 2019, or at the expiration of any current nursing contract. Voting no will leave everything as it is.

Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center Taps New Medical Director
In addition to Dr. Ives, providers who work in the Cancer Center include fellow medical oncologist Dr. Dawn Brooks; radiation oncologist Dr. Matthew Vernon; Supportive Care specialist Dr. Allen Hutcheson; and nurse Carol Comar-Frost.

Berkshire Health Systems Has 'Legitimate Concerns' With Ballot Question
Berkshire Medical Center officials estimate that it'll cost the hospital $22.8 million if Question 1 is passed. Voters will be asked to vote yes or no on a question as to whether or not legally mandate specific ratios of registered nurses to patients. Berkshire Health Systems is opposing the question, fearing the costs will prove to be detrimental to service.

BCC, AHEC Announce Fall Workshops
The Collaborative was created between BCC and Berkshire AHEC in the fall of 2017. Its purpose is to jointly create and launch two new non-credit, continuing education programs; to explore the possible development of for-credit health professions student education; and, to develop a shared vision for a long-term partnership/integrated organization and develop a five-year strategic plan, including some short- and mid-term financial projections.
