Clark to Host 'Cocktails with Picasso and Degas'
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark will extend its "Picasso Looks at Degas" exhibition after hours for an intimate gallery talk with Kathy Morris, director of exhibitions and collections and curator of decorative arts. The event will be the final in the “Cocktails with Picasso and Degas" series.The private event takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. and includes a wine-and-cheese reception. As administrative head of the exhibitions program, Morris plays a central role in creating the Clark’s special exhibition programs. During this gallery talk, she will share her insights into the development of the Picasso Looks at Degas exhibition. She received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Virginia and spent many years as a member of the exhibitions and curatorial staff at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts before joining the Clark.
"Picasso Looks at Degas," on view June 13 through Sept. 12, brings together more than 100 works from international museums and private collections to explore the depth of the Spanish artist’s fixation with Degas through dramatic pairings and groupings of the two artists’ works. The Clark is the exclusive North American venue for the exhibition; it will be presented at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona in the fall of 2010.
"Picasso Looks at Degas" was organized by the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute and the Museu Picasso, Barcelona. It is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities, and with the special cooperation of Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz- Picasso para el Arte.
The Clark is located at 225 South St. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 to 5 (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May.
