Colonials 10-1 rout of the Quebec Capitales
Pittsfield took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the second inning when Peter Fatse clubbed his third homer of the season for a 1-0 Colonials lead. The advantage would be extended in the third when after Danny Bomback and Jerod Edmondson singled to lead off the frame, Billy Mottram tripled to left-center to bring home both runners. Angel Molina stepped in next and hit a sac fly to score Mottram and put Pittsfield up 4-0.
The hit parade continued in the inning as Peter Fatse was hit by a pitch and Chris Torres followed with a ground rule double to move Fatse to third. Scott Knazek came up and hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Fatse and move Torres to third. The Colonials would round out the scoring in the inning when Jermel Lomack singled home Torres to extend the Pittsfield lead to 6-0.
Three more runs came in the fourth to push the advantage to nine. After Quebec scored a run on an RBI groundout in the fifth, Pittsfield got the run back in the bottom of the inning on Edmondson’s fifth homer of the season to stretch the Colonials lead to 10-1.
Chad Paronto (5-4) took care of the rest for Pittsfield. The veteran right-hander went the distance, setting a career high with nine innings pitched. He scattered 10 hits allowing just one run. Paronto also tied a career high with nine strikeouts in the game. Dan Sausville (4-2) took the loss for Quebec.
