Benedict F. Oleskiewicz, 90

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Benedict F. Oleskiewicz, 90, of Adams died Saturday afternoon, October 15, 2016, at Williamstown Commons.

He was born in Adams on July 7, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Eleanora (Modzelewski) Oleskiewicz. He attended Adams schools, then received his Associate's Degree in Environmental Science from Berkshire Community College, and his Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the former North Adams State College (now MCLA).

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving first with the 8th Battalion Field Artillery, then, after completing his first enlistment, served with the Medical Truck Company of the 160th Regiment in Korea, until his Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant in 1953.

Mr. Oleskiewicz last worked at Steinerfilm, Inc., in Williamstown, until retiring in 1985. Earlier, he had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. in Adams, the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, and was also and agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Co.

He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, and was a former member of Adams Post 160 American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

His wife, the former Jeannette H. Beaudin, whom he married on February 11, 1950, died on March 16, 2009.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Zepka and her husband Michael of Savoy and Pamela Capeless and her husband Edward of Adams; four grandchildren, Seth Zepka and his wife Laura of Lanesborough, Amanda Zepka and her companion Mark Cyrulik of Adams, Cynthia Capeless and her fiance Erik Beaudoin of Fall River, Mass. and Russell Capeless of Taunton, Mass.;
a great-grandson, Lucian Michael Zepka of Lanesborough; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Herman, Albert and Joseph Oleskiewicz; and by his sisters, Victoria Koonce, Bernadette Strange, Helen Sardos and Pauline Gilman.

Ben's family would like to thank the staff of Unit 2 at Williamstown Commons, as well as his personal aide, Jeff Mazza, for the kindness they showed to Ben while caring for him.
