Alfred J. Bernardo, 78
LEE, Mass. — Alfred J. Bernardo, 78, of Marble Street died Saturday morning, October 15, 2016, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield.
Alfred was born in Pittsfield, October 18, 1937, the son of Fausto and Mildred Cardoza Bernardo and was educated in the Pittsfield schools and a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Bernardo served in the United States Navy from 1953 until 1958. After being honorably discharged, Al was employed by General Electric Company, where he worked as an assembler on the Bradley Transmission, retiring in 1992.
He married the former Susan Sparks Neales on July 16, 1971. She passed away May 23, 2014.
Al leaves behind four sons, Ronald A. Bernardo and his wife Mary of Pittsfield, John Bernardo of Pittsfield, Richard I. Neales of Lee and James J. Bernardo of Pittsfield; one daughter, Beth A. Grady and her husband Michael of Pittsfield; one sister, Mary Francoeur and her husband Larry of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Al was predeceased by his grandson, James "Jimmy" Bernardo; and his great-grandson, Jayce Grady.
Funeral notice: A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Lee. At the request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. Al’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation, for the wonderful care their father received, to Hospice Care and the staff at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations in Al’s memory to the Kids Place in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
