David A. Shears, 60

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. David A. Shears, 60, of Adams died on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. 

He was born in Pittsfield on February 10, 1956, a son of the late Edwin and Olive (Rosier) Shears. He attended schools in Adams and Cheshire and graduated from Hoosac Valley High School with the class of 1975. 

Mr. Shears last worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Adams Ambulance Service. He had also worked for the North Adams Ambulance Service, the former E. W. DeGere Transportation Co. and the Dufour Bus Company, Adams, and was a part time driver for the Cataract & Eye Center in Adams. He had also owned and operated his own business, Of Sound Mind DJ Service. 

Dave was an Adams firefighter, and had been a member of the Alert Hose Company since February 1, 1993. He was a member of the Adams Agricultural Fair Committee and had served as the Second Vice President. 

He is survived by his wife, the former Joan C. Magerkurth, whom he married on June 14, 1991; two sons, Daniel Shears and his wife Meagen of Adams and Jonathan Shears and his wife Kelsey of Connecticut; one daughter, Bethany Shears of West Springfield; one stepson, Jason Stevens and his wife Jennifer of Pooler, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Jenna Stevens of Adams; one brother, Steven Shears and his wife Julie of Peru, Mass.; four grandchildren, Hannah and Alayna Shears and Hunter and Kaleigh Stevens; his brother-in-law, Donald Magerkurth; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 9 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a service at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Park St., Adams, with Rev. Michael Mullany, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. 

Calling hours are Wednesday, November 30, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Alert Hose Company, 3 Columbia St., Adams, MA 01220, the Adams Ambulance Service, 185 Columbia St., Adams, MA 01220 or to Pop Cares, P.O. Box 482, Williamstown, MA 01267.

So sorry Joan, I missed everything. Dave was a fantastic man. Very caring and giving. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and those who didn't.
