Frederick F. Pietras, 100

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Frederick F. Pietras, 100, of Adams died Tuesday afternoon, November 29, 2016, at Albany Medical Center. 

He was born in Adams on April 21, 1916, a son of the late Peter and Sophia (Gryubosz) Pietras. He attended Adams schools, and graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1936. 

Fred was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He last worked as a quality control technician at Pfizer, Inc. in Adams for over 20 years, until retiring in 1978. Earlier, he worked for his family's business, the former Pietras' Market on Summer Street in Adams, and had also worked briefly at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. 

Fred was a three-sport athlete while at Adams High School, and was inducted into the Adams-Cheshire Hall of Fame. He went on to play semi-pro baseball for the Chicago White Sox organization in Texas, and in his younger years would umpire baseball games, and officiate for basketball games as well. 

An avid golfer, he was a member of Forest Park Country Club in Adams, and enjoyed all sports. He was a fan of the New York Yankees. 

He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society and St. Michael's Society. 

His wife, the former Josephine B. Wilk, whom he married on November 6, 1943, died on September 1, 2008. 

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Aki and her husband, Harry, of Waianae, Hawaii; a son, Frederick P. Pietras and his wife, Barbara, of Adams; a sister, Helen O'Donnell of Adams; five grandchildren, Michael Pietras and his wife Elaine, James Pietras and his wife Elizabeth, Sarah Chumm and her husband Vuthy, Harry Aki III and his wife Raquel; and Lauren Mauai and her husband Lawton; nine great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Pietras; and by a sister, Stephanie Ciolkowski. 

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 9 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery. 

Calling hours are Monday, December 5, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka School, 108 Summer St. Adams, MA 01220.
