Cheryl J. Yarter, 70

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Cheryl Jeanette (Lafave) Yarter, 70, of Williamstown died on January 11, 2017, at her home.

Cheryl was born in North Adams, Mass., on March 29, 1946, a daughter of Louis and Alice (Clum) Lafave.

Cheryl attended school in Williamstown, graduating from Mount Greylock High School in 1964; she then went on to attend North Adams State College. Cheryl worked as the executive secretary to the principal at Mount Greylock Regional High School for 30 years, before retiring in 2011. Following her retirement, she served as an assistant to the Town Clerk of Williamstown at the voting polls.

Cheryl was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She enjoyed going to Plymouth, Mass., and staying for a couple of weeks to spend some time at the ocean, a place she so loved. She was very active in her grandchildren's lives, especially sporting events. She attended many softball, basketball, track and cross country games and meets always as their biggest fan. She also loved to work out at the gym.

Cheryl leaves her husband, Paul Edward Yarter, whom she married on July 10, 1965, at St. Raphael Church in Williamstown; a daughter, Nicole M. Dobbert and her husband Robert of Williamstown; a son, Eric Yarter and his wife Jennifer of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Catherine Benoit of Boston, Ryan Benoit of Williamstown, and Zachary, Alexis, Alexander and Gabriel Yarter; a sister Lois Rancatti and her husband Donald of Hancock; and a brother Gregory Lafave of North Adams.

Funeral notice: A memorial service to celebrate the life of Cheryl Yarter will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main Street, North Adams.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donation may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home.
