Alexander J. Groves, 84

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Alexander J. Groves, 84, of Adams died Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. 

He was born in Adams on November 23, 1932, son of the late Alexander and Florence (Carpenter) Groves, and attended Adams schools. 

Mr. Groves was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1952 until his Honorable Discharge as a Seaman in 1956. 

Mr. Groves last worked in the Power Transformer division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, retiring after 25 years of service. Earlier, he had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for several years. 

He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

In his youth, he had played semi-pro football with the former Adams Bombers, and also played softball and did some boxing. 

His wife, the former Lorraine D. Paquette, whom he married on September 13, 1958, died on July 12, 2010. 

He is survived by his son, Daniel J. Groves of Adams; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. 

He was predeceased by two sons, Alexander M. Groves and Joseph Groves; and by two sisters, Viola West and Dorothy Vincelette. 

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams.
