Ralph Cianflone, 84

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Ralph Cianflone, 84, of 503 Churchill Street in Pittsfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 21, 2017.

A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, he is the son of the late Syracuse Raphael and Anna Assutina Cianflone. He was a graduate of American International College (AIC), Boston University School of Law (1961), and served in the Korean War.

Ralph was passionately devoted to his wife, Louise, and his family, for whom he left a legacy of strength, profound love, faith and tradition. He had a contagious spirit and enjoyed life to its fullest. Witty and entertaining, Ralph added elegance, fun and laughter to any occasion. He was a noble and deeply compassionate man who believed in and lived his life with the virtues of truth and loyalty.

Deeply committed to his profession and a practicing attorney for 56 years, Ralph worked tirelessly to help his clients and others in need. He was a public defender for many years before going into private practice. For over 30 years he practiced law at Cianflone and Cianflone, PC with his son David. Ralph was a long-time member, Paul Harris Award recipient, and past president of the Pittsfield Rotary Club.

He is a board member at the Berkshire Historical Society at Arrowhead and previously worked on numerous community boards and area non-profit organizations. A faithful member of South Congregational Church, UCC, he was a church moderator and sang in the choir.

He enjoyed working with Louise in their yard and beautiful gardens, making food and wine to share with family and friends, and hosting guests from around the world. He and Louise traveled extensively, taking many trips to Italy, a place they considered their second home, enjoying weekends at their cottage in Chatham, Mass., and fishing with their son, Ralph, in Alaska.

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Louise (Forrest) Cianflone; six children (and spouses), Linnea Rufo, David (Mary) Cianflone, Deborah (Brian) Cox, Pamela (Tom) Rich, Ralph (Lorelei) L. Cianflone, and Jennifer Benson; 11 grandchildren, Jordan (Nate), Hunter, Owen, Averie, Cameron, Harry, Jackson, Gabe, Aurora, Henry, Stella; and two-great-grandchildren, Harper and Asher.

He is predeceased by his sister, Theresa (Teddi) Lauren.
