Franklin E. Perras Jr., 79

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Franklin Edward Perras Jr., 79, of North Adams, Mass., passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at BMC North. 

Born in Adams, Mass., on April 30, 1938, to Franklin E. Perras and Pearl B. Burdick Perras. He was also the stepson to Lawrence Briggs. He attended Drury High School and went on to join the military.

Franklin was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served from 1956 -1988. Of his 32 years, 19 years were of Foreign Service. Franklin served during the Korean War and Vietnam War, as well as the Lebanon and Grenada campaigns. He was the recipient of many honors and medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal. Franklin voluntarily retired as Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force after serving the maximum years allowed by policy. He later was employed at General Electric and General Dynamics in Pittsfield, Mass., and most recently at Sweetwood of Williamstown located in Williamstown, Mass.

In addition to being a keen debater, he was a collector of many things. He was fluent in several languages and was a skilled interpreter. He enjoyed hiking, boating, and being outdoors. He was an avid storyteller who loved the attention of a captive audience. With a gleam in his eye, Frank received great pleasure sharing the adventures from his past and the dreams of his future. He welcomed the visits of local of local passer-bys and will be remembered by family and friends for his sense of humor, grand imagination, and kind smile. His ambition, strong work ethic and desire to make a difference in the lives of future generations is his legacy.

Mr. Perras is survived by his son Christopher; two grandchildren Crystal Marie and Joshua Robert; one sister Florence Proulx of Pittsfield; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by two sisters, Clara Elizabeth Lewis and Ruth Frances Sorel Annis; and one brother, Lawrence A. Perras.

Funeral notice: Friends are welcome to join the family at a memorial service honoring the life of CMSGT Franklin E. Perras on June 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Hinsdale Town Cemetery, Maple Street, Hinsdale, Mass. Reverend William D. Furey of Berkshire Union Chapel will be officiating. There will be no calling hours at Frank’s request. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.
