Kaliq I. Sherman, 17

ADAMS, Mass. — Kaliq Isaiah Sherman, 17, resident of Adams, sadly left us here as he began his journey climbing the stairway to Heaven, on Monday, June 12, 2017.

He was born at North Adams Regional Hospital on Friday, June 9, 2000, beloved son of Pamela A. Sherman, and the late Cleodis McCants.

Kaliq was a junior at Hoosac Valley Middle and High School. His highest achievement being a true and loyal friend, sharing of himself, his smile, his laugh, his shine, with classmates and others. He was a member of the track team, he qualified and ran at Western Mass Regionals. His plan was to join the Cross Country Team for the Fall. He was eligible for the Stanley Z. Kaplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction for his advanced MCAS scores.

Kaliq was an extremely talented artist. His creations and Life styles were offsprings of his artistic mind. Kaliq walked in this Life to his own beat, his own tune, and the music was beautiful.

Kaliq had worked as a peer mentor with the Bridging the Gap Program. He worked at the Adams Youth Center during their summer programs. He also had a job with the Berkshire Community Action Council in North Adams.

Kaliq loved animals and nature. He rescued injured or distressed wildlife on more than one occasion. He loved the assortment of family pets.

Kaliq leaves behind his mother, Pamela A. Sherman of Adams; three older brothers, Kyle, Tyler and Caleb Sherman of Adams; his paternal grandmother, Nellie McCants and her life partner Jay Banks of Boston; an uncle, Timothy McCants of Boston; several cousins from Boston; two nieces, Jaelynn and Julianna Sherman; and a nephew, Landen Sherman.

Kaliq's sudden departure into his new journey has also left many close friends, his adoring dog Maggie, his cats M.J. and Nesta, and his family dogs, Delilah and Thor, the bird Precious, and three snakes; Fred, Aries, and Aragon.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017, at noon in the First Congregational Church, Park Street, Adams, officiated by Rev. Michael Mullany, Pastor. Burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours are Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Paciorek Funeral Home. A calling hour ONLY for Kaliq's classmates, friends and staff of Hoosac Valley Middle and High School will be Thursday from 3 to 4 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Rd., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
