Daniel Hines, 68

PERU, Mass. — Daniel Marion Hines, 68, of Peru, Mass., died Monday, July 10, 2017, at Cooley-Dickinson Hospital.

Dan was born October 15, 1948, in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia, the son of Ray D. and Mary "Jean" Hines. He was raised and educated in Dayton, Ohio, Jefferson Twp. Schools. A proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, he spent many years working for Dayton Power & Light Co. keeping the giant power generators functioning. In 1994 he moved to Berkshire County, Mass. and until his retirement in 2011, he worked in maintenance at the family-connected Interprint, Inc.

Dan was an accomplished athlete during his school years, especially in football, earning all-league, all-regional Ohio honors. He was an avid hunter and self-proclaimed "mountain man," living his dream life in his home in Peru, Mass. He cherished his annual trip back to Ohio reuniting with his family and friends there. His greatest joy was spending this time with his daughters, grandkids, siblings, nephews, nieces and cousins during the annual family get-together. He will be greatly missed and loved by us.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother David; and brothers-in-law Roy Tipton and Tony Izor.

Dan is survived by three daughters in Ohio, Danielle Centers, Amy Underwood and Elisa Deters; eight grandchildren; sisters Joyce Tipton from Portland, Ind., and Teresa Izor of Farmersville, Ohio; brothers Lowell (wife Jenny) W. Milton of Ohio and William (wife Mary Ellen) of Pittsfield, Mass.; sister-in-law Nancy Hines of Flushing, Mich.; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral notice: A visitation for Massachusetts family and friends will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. An additional memorial service for Ohio family and friends will be Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Twin Valley Rod & Gun Club, Preble County Line Road, West Alexandria, Ohio.
