Lorraine Newton, 81

LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — Lorraine “Lorry” Newton, 81, died on Thursday, September 7, 2017. 

She was born in Pittsfield and was a longtime resident of Lanesborough, Mass. Known by friends as Lorry, she worked for Price Chopper in Pittsfield for 30 years. Never really retiring, she joined her longtime friends from the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department to serve at the Senior Center Meal site at the Newton Memorial Town Hall. 

A tireless cheerleader for her family, her love and support will be sadly missed. 

Lorraine leaves her husband of 63 years, Winslow E. Newton; four daughters, Linda Knight, Cheryl Abriel, Tracy Brooks and Susan Chenail; her grandchildren, Stephen Abriel, Nicholas and Hannah Chenail, and Chadwick, Alexander and Devon Knight; her great-grandchild Lilly Knight; two brothers, three sisters and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral notice: Funeral services for Lorraine “Lorry” Newton, who died September 7, 2017, will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Wood, Administrator. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lanesborough. 

Calling hours will be held Friday evening, September 15, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorraine’s memory can be made to the Lanesborough Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
