Carol A. Swain, 81
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Carol Anne (Murphy) Swain, 81, of North Adams, Mass., died on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, Mass.
She was born in Cochrane, Ontario, Canada, on February 23, 1936, a daughter of the late William and Pauline (Fournier) Murphy. Mrs. Swain graduated from St. Joseph High School and went on to graduate from North Adams State College in 1957 with a degree in Education. Mrs. Swain taught first grade at the Greylock Elementary School in North Adams for many years. She was a member of the Greylock Parent-Teacher Organization.
Mrs. Swain was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association.
Mrs. Swain was the widow of Robert Joseph Swain, whom she married on April 18, 1960, at St. Francis Church in North Adams. He died on January 8, 2010.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Bassage of Hatfield, Mass.; a son, Michael Swain of Greenfield, Mass.; as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her brother William Murphy.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Carol Swain will take place on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, North Adams, Mass. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 W. Main St., North Adams, Mass. Donations in her memory can be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Berkshire Humane Society.
