Dominick G. Papas Jr., 83
ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Dominick George Papas Jr., 83, of Adams, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at his home.
He was born in North Adams on February 14, 1934, a son of the late Dominico and Maria (Canale) Papa. He attended schools in North Adams. Mr. Papas was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army stationed in Fort George Meade in Maryland until receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1958.
Mr. Papas last worked as a cost analyst for the Naval Ordnance Division of General Electric Co., Pittsfield, until his retirement. Earlier he had worked for the former Sprague Electric Co., North Adams, where he held several positions, his last being a Buyer, the former Berkshire Fuel Co., Adams and the former Roberts Co., North Adams. He had also been a part time real estate agent for Romanos Realty in Adams.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire. He was a longtime volunteer for the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, as well as St. Mary’s. He was a member and past president of the Italian American Club, Pittsfield. He was a member of the North Adams Men’s Club, the Adams Lions Club and served the town of Adams on the Finance Committee, the Personnel Board and various special committees. He had also been a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Papas enjoyed coin collecting, gardening, playing cards and traveling. He and his wife organized many international and domestic group excursions.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, the former Shirley A. Bator, whom he married on May 21, 1960; a son Mark Papas of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Papas Simons of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Michael Simons and his wife Courtney, Tyler Simons and his wife Angela, Eric Simons and Deanna Simons, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Mary Valenti of Pittsfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Vincent Pappas; and by six sisters, Theresa Sukel, Josephine Jacquot, Rose Morocco, Catherine Labombard, Genevieve “Eva” Champagne and Frances O’Brien.

Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 9:15 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, celebrated by Rev. Matthew Guidi, Pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Friday, December 8, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A prayer service and Rosary will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
