Edmund ‘Moose’ Ziaja, 91
ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Edmund Martin “Moose” Ziaja, 91, of Adams died on Sunday, December 31, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Adams on August 10, 1926, a son of the late Martin and Anna (Orzechowski) Ziaja. He attended schools in Adams.
Mr. Ziaja was a veteran of World War II, having served with General George Patton’s 4th Armored Division of the United States Army in the European Theater. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and was Honorably Discharged in July of 1946.
Mr. Ziaja worked for the former Pfizer, Inc., in Adams for 33 years, until retiring in 1986.
He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a life member of the Adams Post 160 American Legion, the Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Trappers Association, the Brunswick Fox Hunters Association and the Cheshire Rod & Gun Club. He was also a former member of the Adams Turners. He was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and gardener.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Meczywor of Adams; a brother Emil Ziaja of Stark, N.Y.; two nephews, Steve and Martin Ziaja; a niece Sue Ziaja; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Stanley and Ernest Ziaja; and by a sister, Mary Ziaja.
Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Friday, January 5, at 10:00 A.M. in the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Thursday, January 4, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Post 160 American Legion, 160 Forest Park Ave., Adams, MA 01220.
