Milton D. Chittenden, 97
ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Milton Donald Chittenden, 97, of Adams, died on Friday, February 2, 2018, at North Adams Commons.
He was born in Adams on June 7, 1920, a son of the late Milton and Ethel (Whitman) Chittenden. He attended schools in Adams. Mr. Chittenden was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Platoon Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. in Brazil, Guam and Iwo Jima. He was Honorably Discharged from the 3rd Marine Division in 1945.
Mr. Chittenden worked in the Power Transformer Division of General Electric Company, Pittsfield until his retirement.
He was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II, Adams. He was a member of the Alert Hose Company in Adams for 52 years having been elected to the company on March 7, 1961. He became an Honorary Member on May 7, 2013. He was also a member of the Adams Forest Wardens, Adams Post 160 American Legion, the Forest Park Country Club and the Taconic Country Club. He enjoyed bowling at the Adams Turn Hall and Greylock Bowl. In High School he was a three sport letterman, having played basketball, football and baseball.
His wife, the former Irene A. Sudacki, whom he married on May 13, 1944, died on May 5, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Maureen Chittenden of Adams; a son, Gregory Chittenden of Readsboro, Vt.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Jane Ann Chittenden; by two brothers, Harold and William Chittenden; and by a sister, Charlotte Scarbo.
Funeral notice: The funeral will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 9 a.m. from the Paciorek Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, McKinley Square, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Thursday, February 8, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
