Elida Naylor, 90

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Elida Smith (Buskey) Naylor, 90, of North Adams, Mass., a longtime summer resident of Historic Valley Campground, died Tuesday February 13, 2018, at Williamstown Commons.

She was born in Bristol, Conn., on October 31, 1927, daughter of Lawrence and Hazel (Smith) Buskey. She graduated from Central High School in Bristol. Prior to her marriage, Elida worked at a Girl Scout camp. She was primarily a homemaker and was devoted to her family.  

Elida was an active volunteer in the community, assisting with blood drives and serving as a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. At age 87, she chose to be baptized at All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams.  

Elida enjoyed traveling, especially living in Germany, and attending art museums, getting particular enjoyment from the art of Mary Cassatt and Andrew Wyeth. She also enjoyed watching TV shows from England on public television and reading mystery novels.

She was the widow of Col. William Henry Naylor Jr., US Army, who died on December 31, 1996. They were married on September 3, 1949.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Sexton and her husband, Brian, of Pontiac, Mich., and Sheila Dassatti and her husband, Richard, of North Adams, Mass.; one son, William Henry Naylor III and his wife, Sally, of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren, including Jacob, Christopher, Michael, Kate, Serena, Emma and her husband Aaron, Tessa and Peter; four great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kylie, Addilyn, and Piper; her cousin, Linda Manning; and nieces and nephews.  

She was predeceased by her sister, Jeanne DiPietro. 

She also leaves the loving staff of Williamstown Commons, who took wonderful care of her.

Funeral notice: A graveside service for Elida Naylor will be held in the spring in Arlington National Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Williamstown Commons Residents Activities Fund in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Cental Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
