Robert D. Markland, 87
ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. Robert David Markland, 87, of Adams died Friday morning, April 13, 2018, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox.
He was born in North Adams on September 30, 1930, son of the late David and Gertrude (Jolly) Markland. He attended North Adams schools, graduating from the former St. Joseph’s High School. Mr. Markland worked as a laboratory technician at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for over 40 years, until his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Irene H. Anton, whom he married on May 30, 1953; six sons, Jerome Markland of Tolland, Conn., Jeffrey Markland of North Adams, John Markland of Pittsfield, Randy Markland of Windsor, Mass., Joseph Markland of Franklin, Mass., and David Markland of Amherst, Mass.; one daughter, Mary Cancilla of Lanesborough, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Markland and Gladys Allard.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams.
