Evelyn Stewart, 84

LEE, Mass. — Evelyn Irene Stewart, 84, of East Center Street, Lee, died at her home on Saturday evening, June 9, 2018, with her family at her side.

Evelyn was born in Pittsfield on October 25, 1933, the daughter of William and Evelyn West Carroll. She was raised and educated in Pittsfield and a member of the Pittsfield High School Class of 1951. Upon graduating, Evelyn went to work for the National Biscuit Company for four years. She married William Stewart Jr. on July 16, 1955.

Mrs. Stewart was known as the “cake lady” as she baked and decorated cakes for all occasions as well as taught cake decorating classes at Monument Mountain High School. “Evie” loved her gardens, knitting and crocheting, rubber stamping, painting and miniature doll houses. She was also a former Girl Scout leader. 

Evie enjoyed camping and trips to Maine and Cape Cod. Most of all, Evie cherished her time spent with her family and her cat “Tigger.”

Besides her husband, William, of Lee, Mrs. Stewart leaves behind her son, William, of Sandisfield; three daughters, Ruth Allen and her husband, Stephen, of Wallingford, Conn., Robin Tedds and her husband, Andrew, of Ashley Falls, and Barbara Teggi and her husband, Thomas Jr., of Sheffield; one brother, John Carroll and his wife, Sheila, of Tacroa, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Carrie, Hanna, Naomi, Thomas III, Courtney, Robert, William and Joshua; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Alex; along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stewart was predeceased by her four brothers, William, Edward, Daniel and Robert; and her grandson, Kyle Curtiss.

Funeral notice: A Memorial Service will be held at the Kelly Funeral Home on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018, at 10 a.m. her family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may send a donation in Evelyn’s name to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Berkshire Humane Society or Hospice of Western and Central MA in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
