William E. Whitney, 60
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — William Edward Whitney, 60, of North Adams died on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at BMC North Adams.
He was born in North Adams, Mass., on December 1, 1957, a son of Marie Whitney Clark of Vermont and the late Edward William Whitney. He attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from McCann Tech High School with the class of 1976. He was a mechanic/auto body technician for local businesses, which included Roger's Automotive Sales and Carpinello's. He was a silent but vocal partner in the decision making at Al Whitney Trucking in Williamstown.
He was a member of the Greylock Community Club and he had a love for NASCAR, demolition derby, and stock cars.
William’s wife, Cheryl Lee (Fredette) Whitney, whom he married on December 17, 1976, died on July 14, 2016. William leaves his mother, Marie Whitney Clark, and her husband, David C. Clark, of West Pawlet, Vt.; a daughter, Beth Whitney of North Adams; a son, Wayne Whitney and his fiancée Lila Briggs of Florida, Mass.; his grandchildren, Felicia and Brian Whitney; a great-grandson, Oliver Newton; his brothers, Al Whitney and his wife Lisa of Williamstown and David C. Clark Jr.; his sisters, Sandra Watson, Mary Murphy, Jeannette James and Holly Whitney; aunt Carolyn Whitney of Bennington; and aunt and uncle Rosemary and Donald Briggs of Evansville, Ind.
Bill was predeceased by a stepmother, Barbara Whitney.
Funeral notice: Calling hours for William Whitney will be on Saturday, August 25, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m. followed by a reception at the Greylock Community Club.
