Lee C. Harvey, 83
WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Lee C. Harvey, 83, passed away on September 1, 2018, at home after a short illness.
Born on July 17, 1935, in Silver Creek, N.Y., he was the son of the late Maximillian and Ruby Franklin Harvey. Lee was raised in Chatham, N.Y., and graduated from Chatham High School. He later attended Rochester Business Institute, where he earned a bachelor’s degree.
Lee married his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Rathbun Harvey, on February 1, 1957, in Rochester, N.Y. They moved to the Berkshires shortly after and raised their family here.
Lee proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later was a restaurateur for the majority of his life. He and his wife ran the “Dairy Queen” in Great Barrington in the 1970s. He also worked as a machinist at Sheffield Plastics later in life.
He loved bowling and won many awards over the years at the Cove Bowling Lane. He also enjoyed going to the casinos and traveling. Having been the child of an educator, he was keenly interested in all historical places and traveled with his family to as many as they could. He enjoyed being outdoors, swimming and boating. He was an avid dog lover and always had one by his side.
Lee is survived by his three children, Leigh A. Harvey, Tamara J. Harvey and Michael V. Harvey; as well as his grandchildren, Norman P. Stalker III and Amara R. Harvey; his great-grandchildren, Elena M. Stalker and Luna L. Crawford; his sister Ann Chambers; his brother Robert Breads; and his great-aunt Helen R. Ploughoft.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Betty; and his son William F. Harvey; as well as his sister Doris Cameron and his brothers Richard, Donald and Peter Breads.
Funeral notice: A memorial service will be held for the late Lee C. Harvey on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, in West Stockbridge, Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230, who is in charge of arrangements.
