Martin T. Brown, 76

LEE, Mass. — Martin T. Brown, 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at his home, with his wife of 36 years and his friend and special angel, Missy Sparks, at his side, following a valiant two year battle with prostate cancer.

Martin was born on July 9, 1942, in New York City, to Robert M. and Elizabeth Martin Brown. The family moved to Fair Lawn, N.J., where Marty grew up, graduating from Fair Lawn High School in 1960. Upon graduation, Marty joined the U.S. Navy, serving threeyears of active duty at NAS Pensacola, followed by seven years in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

After discharge from active duty, Marty went to work for the Seamen's Bank for Savings in New York City, where he was a branch manager and Assistant Vice President. After meeting his future wife, Kathy, at a banking school at UMass-Amherst, Marty relocated to the Berkshires. He went to work for Berkshire Bank & Trust Company, managing the Stockbridge office, for a number of years, followed by stints at Greylock Federal Credit Union and Canaan National Bank. After retiring from banking, Marty spent the next 14 years at Guido's Fresh Marketplace, with most of that time spent in the accounting department.

Marty was a long-time member of Greenock Country Club, playing in the Men's Senior League. He was a past member of the Lee Lions Club, the Lee and Stockbridge Chambers of Commerce and the Laurel Hill Association.

He loved his home and his yard, spending many happy hours gardening and bird watching, and spending time with family and friends, especially the many get-togethers with the Crazy Eights. He cherished the time spent with his sons and their wives and his four grandsons. He and Kathy traveled extensively, with trips to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and both coasts of the U.S., but Marty’s favorite trips were those with friends and family, and especially time spent on the Cape, the coast of Maine and in Boston. The annual Feast of St. Anthony in the Boston North End was a favored annual highlight for many years.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy Naventi-Brown, whom he married on September 4, 1982; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sue Brown and grandsons Evan and Mitchell; his son Dan and daughter-in-law Amber Brown and grandsons Noah and Sam; and in-laws Peggy and Jim Hashim, Peter and Diane Naventi, MaryAnn Naventi and Louise and Nick Lucchese. Other survivors include his nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud, Brian and Jeff Hashim, Becky Lois, Matthew and Andrew Naventi, Elise Naventi-Reid, Madeline Naventi and Brandon Lucchese, along with his great-nieces and nephews: Ben, Samantha, Charlie and Penelope Hashim, Will and Dylan Lois, Molly Naventi, and Myla Reid. He also leaves behind his beloved pets, Cash and Baxter.

Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Martin Brown will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Friday evening, December 7, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home.

His family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care provided by the staff of Mount Carmel Care Center and the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association. Donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the Lee Ambulance Service, in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
