Joseph F. Zarek, 86
ADAMS, Mass. — Joseph F. Zarek, 86, of South Windsor, Conn., beloved husband of the late Norma Zarek, joined his sweetheart in heaven on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2019.
Born on August 16, 1932, in Adams, Mass., son of the late John and Josephine (Ligeza) Zarek. Joseph proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean war. He was employed for Pratt and Whitney retiring as a supervisor after 40 years. He then went to work for Budney Industries for 22 years.
Joseph was a communicant of St. Junipero Serra Church – St. Margaret Mary Church. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots Fan. He enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod, where he spent time with family, going to the beach and clamming. He also loved his annual trips to Bermuda with wife Norma.Joe loved following his son's baseball career as well as his grandchildren's sports.
He is survived by three children, Mark Zarek and his wife Kathleen of South Windsor, Kimberly Breen and her husband Thomas of Harwich, Mass., and Lisa Hood and her husband Edward of Vernon; four grandchildren, Abbey, Ryan, Katelyn and Kelsey; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason; his best companion Lizzie; a brother, John Zarek and his wife Starlet; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral notice: Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours on Sunday, February 17, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Samsel and Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 18, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Junipero Serra Parish – St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Military Honors will follow.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org) or Harry Gray Cancer Center – 85 Retreat Ave, #2, Hartford, CT 06106.
