Mary E. Law, 72

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Mary E. Law, 72, passed away on January 19, 2020, at home.

Born on December 31, 1947, in Port Chester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian Wismann McLaughlin. Raised in New York, she was a graduate of Harrison High School. She worked as a machine operator in the plastics industry. She came to the Berkshires 53 years ago and lived in New Marlborough and Ashley Falls, where she raised her family.

Mary loved to cook and was the best at pot roast, mac 'n' cheese and her fabulous Christmas cookies. She adored her children and grandchildren and one of her favorite past times was watching them play sports. She was an avid James Bond fan.

She was the most selfless woman ever. Toward the end of her life when she had trouble doing things for herself, she made certain that her family was taken care of. Whether it was handing out endless rolls of toilet paper or tubes of toothpaste, feeding everyone "till they nearly burst" or just sitting at the kitchen table to chat, Mary was always there for her family.

Mary enjoyed crocheting and saving anything ... especially money, paper towels and butter. She loved animals, particularly her beloved collie Bonnie, her bunny Thumper and her slimy grand-dog Bruno, and she usually had one or two cats roaming around.

Mary is survived by her children, Laura Bassett, John Candelari and Jamie Law and his wife Erica Ryan Law; her beloved grandchildren, Nicole Bassett, Jared, Makayla, Tyler and Gabby Candelari and Piper Ryan Law; and her sister, Lillian Moran of Yonkers, N.Y., and her daughter Kristen Moran.

Aside from her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother John McLaughlin in 1971.

Funeral notice: The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2020, from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crissy Farms, 426 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington.

Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires c/o FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St, Great. Barrington, MA. 01230.
