NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Dr. John Louis Moresi Sr., 66, of 120 Wells Ave. died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Dr. Moresi had represented the city on the board of directors of the Hoosac Water Quality District since 1978 and was chairman at the time of his death. He also was chairman of the Board of Health.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 4, 1946, son of Louis and Ida Roncetti Moresi, he attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1964. He received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master's degree in chemistry from Williams College.
At the age of 30, he enrolled at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry, graduating with his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1978. He received several awards for his academic and research accomplishments there.
He was an Air Force veteran.
Dr. Moresi established his dental practice in North Adams and operated it until the time of his death. He had first worked as a chemist with the former Sprague Electric Co.
He was very active in the community. In addition to his service with the city, including more than a year on the HWQD before attending dental school, he served on the board of the Catholic Outreach to Youth (COTY) Project. He also taught courses at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in biology, pharmacology, Italian and cooking.
Dr. Moresi was passionate about his Italian heritage and Italian culture. He organized many tours of the Italian region through MCLA and on his own. He was also co-owner and operator, with his two sons, of the fprmer Due Baci Restaurant at the Holiday Inn.
He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed trips to Cape Cod with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and especially enjoyed spending time with his four granddaughters.
He and his wife, the former Barbara E. Liddell, were married on Aug. 10, 1968, in St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John L. Moresi Jr. and his wife, Sharron, and Christopher W. Moresi and his wife, Stacy, all of North Adams, and four granddaughters, Kaitlyn A. Moresi, a sophomore at the College of St. Rose, Carrigan E. Moresi, Skylar G. Moresi and Melanie S. Moresi.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Dr. Moresi will be Saturday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, March 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Patient Satisfaction Fund at North Adams Regional Hospital in care of the funeral home.
