David S. Yorke, 74

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - David Stillman Yorke, 74, of 29 Canedy Lane died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Brattleboro, Vt., on Dec. 29, 1939, son of Milton and Hattie Naomi Ayers York, he attended Readsboro, Vt., schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1957. He graduated from the former St. Joseph's College in Bennington, Vt., in 1966. Mr. Yorke was last employed as the executive director of the Berkshire Training and Employment Office in Pittsfield for many years. Before that, he worked as an operator at New England Electric Hydro Station No. 5. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a member and past president of the Readsboro Lions Club and had been a member of the North Adams Handicapped Commission. An avid hunter, fisherman and mushroomer, he also enjoyed singing, cooking, and making homemade wine. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and times at his deer camp. He and his wife, the former Agnes A. Righi, were married on June 20, 1959. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Jane M. Crews and her husband, David, of Pasadena, Md., and Nancy A. Lewis and her husband, Michael, of North Adams; three sons, Thane D. Yorke and his wife, Shannon, of Cheshire, David W. Yorke Sr. and his wife, Connie, of Stamford, Vt., and Chris M. Yorke of Readsboro; two sisters, Gertrude "Betty" Sprague and Sue Ellen Brown, both of Readsboro; one brother, Milton "Tweed" York of Readsboro; seven grandchildren, Joshua Yorke, Adam Yorke and Matthew Yorke, all of Cheshire, Nicole Rondeau and her husband, Gary, of Honolulu, Sarah Hurlbut and her husband, Kyle, of Clarksburg, David W. Yorke Jr. and his wife, Amanda, of North Adams, and Calli Bacon and her husband, Jeremy, of Cape Coral, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren, Ella Rondeau, Gary Rondeau Jr., Dakota Hurlbut, PJ Scott, Kolby Scott, Ariana Yorke, Lucian Yorke and Hayli Bacon. He also leaves and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. FUNERAL NOTICE - The funeral for Mr. Yorke will be Tuesday, April 15, at 10:15 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery in Readsboro. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, April 14, from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the American Diabetes Association or to UCP of Berkshire County to benefit people with disabilities.
