Louisa Mae Eichhammer, 77

April 19, 2014

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Louisa Mae Eichhammer, 77, of Williamstown, died peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.

Born in Woodburn, Ind., on July 22, 1936, one of three daughters of Arthur and Betty Vogtman Reddersen, she attended schools there, graduating from Woodburn High School in 1954. She attended Valparaiso University in Indiana, where she met her husband, Charles Henry Eichhammer.

They married in 1958 and lived in a number of states before settling in the New York City area, where Mr. Eichammer was from.

Mrs. Eichhammer and husband were proprietors of the Elwall Pines Motel, a long-established business that they purchased upon moving to Williamstown in July 1976. Her husband died unexpectedly in August 1978, but she operated the motel until retiring in 1994. She also had worked in administrative jobs in the New York City area, including Walt Disney Corp. and Kelley Employment Services.

She retired to Auburndale, Fla., until returning to Williamstown in 2006.

She leaves her son, Craig Eichhammer and his wife, Amy, of North Adams; two sisters, Linda Yerks and her husband, Bruce, of Michigan, and Beverly Hormann and her husband, Robert, of Missouri; her stepgranddaughter, Bailee Duquette; a brother-in-law, John Eichhammer and his wife, Ruth, of Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Per the family's request, there will be no calling hours. Memorial donations can be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.

Mrs. Eichhammer's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sweet Brook Care Centers who took such good care of her in her final days.
