Robert E. Brownsword Jr., 71
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Robert Eugene Brownsword Jr., 71, of 45 Spring St. died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at his home.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 26, 1942, son of Robert E. and Marion Williams Brownsword, he attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School. He also graduated from the former St. Joseph's College in Bennington, Vt., and then North Adams State College.
He served in the Massachusetts National Guard for many years.
Mr. Brownsword was a licensed optician associated with his father at Robert Brownsword Opticians for many years. He also maintained a real estate sales license for several years.
He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and a member of the Harper Center in Williamstown, attending its exercise class.
He enjoyed sailing and skiing. He also enjoyed watching the TV show "MASH"; British comedies and old movies
He leaves his son, Robert E. Brownsword III of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, William Wyatt Brownsword and Morgan Taylor Brownsword; his best friend, Patricia Tovani of the town of Florida; his former wife, Karen Dupell Drickamer of Biglerville, Pa., and his beloved cat, Misty.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Calling hours for Mr. Brownsword will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be at a later date in Southview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the Harper Center Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
